Navigli + Milano
The project is located in an undeveloped area but shows evident signs of previous activities. The existing buildings adjacent to the intervention area are heterogeneous, composed of various building fabrics that have settled over different periods. The proposed project, which meets the requirements of the technical standards and the forecasts of the PGT (Territorial Governance Plan), involves the construction of two buildings (hereinafter referred to as Building 1 and Building 2) of different shapes and planimetric sizes. Building 1 is tasked with creating a continuous front along the Naviglio; this elongated rectangular building occupies almost 100% of the side of the lot on which it stands. Building 2, attached to the narrow front of Building 1, is responsible for reconstructing over 50% of the curtain wall on the street perpendicular to the canal. The new building volumes, contained in height and land occupation, serve as a backdrop and crown for the small private park that occupies the remaining area of the lot. Here, for the landscaping of the green area, only natural materials with a high permeability coefficient, such as grass, wood, trees, gravel, etc., are used. The green and built project, in essence, fits into the cultural trend that today finds in the design of private space and the use of natural and eco-sustainable materials, ways to avoid being trapped in essentially outdated construction typologies. The starting point of the architectural project is a reference to Milanese rationalist architecture, from which to define a new contemporary language characterized by linear and essential elements.
